Marrickville House

This is a modest addition 2 level addition to the rear of a federation bungalow.  Almost like an autonomous dwelling, it extends the living area with a new kitchen and dining room, above which is a bedroom, study and ensuite.

The existing house was hermetic and inward looking, closed to light, air and the rear garden. The new addition, removed built in accretions and opened up the house to the rear garden with an L shaped plan and verandah.

The new kitchen and dining room look north to the garden whilst the staircase and the the bedroom and ensuite above, look south over the public park immediately adjacent. An expansive picture window creates a tree house like ambience to the bedroom. Sunlight illuminates the treescape creating an everchanging view, reflecting light through the stair void and across the bed and new living areas.
