We are proud to announce our Salvation Army Project for 50 Homeless men has been approved by the City of Sydney. Designed in association with Hill Thalis A+U the project has 2 street frontages and is designed around a central courtyard, which brings light and air into all the rooms and the daily life of the place. 50 rooms, made up of studios and 1 bedroom apartments are arranged overlooking both streets and entered from the courtyard atrium space.
The ground floor contains Army support services, general amenities including a gym, communal kitchen, computer room and the main circulation, which connects through the building down to the Hands Lane entry. Courtyards like this have been built for 1,000s of years in warm temperate climates like ours, from India to Spain. It was certainly not straight forward getting this courtyard through fire engineering and BCA consultants but we came through in the end virtually intact.
